What is LinkedIn?

LinkedIn for Businesses

The Logo and Trademarks are LinkedIn’s and LinkedIn Corporation’s property.

LinkedIn was first introduced to the social media community as the professional network in 2003. The company started in late 2002 by recruiting old members from SocialNet and PayPal. Its founders are Reid Hoffman, Allen Blue, Konstantin Guericke, Eric Ly and Jean-Luc Vaillant.

The comment on Joi Ito’s blog post announced the launch of the LinkedIn site on May 5, 2003.

Launch of LinkedIn May 2003

LinkedIn’s growth was extremely slow at first— just about 20 signups on some days. However, the company has significantly accelerated thanks to its introduction to several key features such as Address Book Uploads, Jobs and Subscriptions, Group and Partners with American Express.

The screenshot below was the email from Lee Hower in May 2003 asking the company’s original members about its estimates for growth (in term of total members).

Based on these estimates, Ian and Steve were not very positive about the company growth. In contrast, Yan and Eric were very optimistic about the company future. I am wondering who was the winner of the $300 gift. 🙂
